Circular Walk - Brassington to Cromford through Ible and Matlock Bath

Brassington to Harboro Rocks (1.21 miles)

Take the main road north from Brassington. Then take the first road on the right. Follow it round the bend and take footpath on the left. When you reach the lane, turn right and then take the next footpath on the left. The path winds through a works. Cross the High Peak Trail and enter Harboro Rocks. The cave is on the left side of the path.

Harboro Rocks to Ible (2.41 miles)

Return to footpath and continue across the rocks. The path goes downhill towards the farm. Go past the farm and turn left onto the wide track. Ible is visible on the opposite side of the valley
At the end of the track the path bears right. It crosses the field diagonally. It comes out of the fields by the crossroads at Grangemill. Cross the road and take the road to Winster. After a few yards turn right. Then turn right again towards Ible.

Ible to Matlock Bath (3.34 miles)

Pass through Ible and take the footpath to left at the end of hamlet. Follow the path across numerous small fields. It will eventually lead onto a small track. Take the path (Limestone Way) on the left. Enter Upper Town and take the main road through this part of Bonsall. Go past the Barley Mow pub and turn left at the end of the road. Turn up past the market cross and take the lane past the church. The road bends to the left and eventually becomes a track. Take footpath straight ahead as track bends to right. Follow it over the hill and down though the woods. Turn left to the Heights of Abraham entrance. Then take the footpath opposite to the entrance down to Temple and New Bath hotels.

Matlock Bath to Cromford (1.26 miles)

Go past the New Bath Hotel and join the main road, turn right. After a few hundred yards on the left is Arkwright’s Masson Mill. Continue on the main road. Cross the road at the traffic lights and go towards Cromford. Take the first right turn to Scarthin Pond

Cromford to Brassington (5.31 miles)

Walk round Scarthin Pond and return to the main road. Turn right up the hill. Pass the close of workers cottages. Take the next footpath on the left. It goes up between the houses. Cross the first lane. On the second lane turn left then right back on to the path. It then becomes a lane. Cross the cattle grid. Take the path as it skirts the edge of the field to the right. Follow the path up through the woods and join the High Peak Trail. Turn right towards Middleton Top. Continue on High Peak Trail until Harboro Rocks. Retrace the route to Brassington.
